here goes...

and so it begins...

something i’ve been thinking about for the past couple of months. a blog. a kind of “happiness project” inspired by a book of the same name, by gretchen rubin (who by the way was never unhappy when she began the project, rather simply knew she could always be happier...which i love.)

a journey to start living for today. to stop thinking about what i’d love to do someday. someday i’d love to be crafty. someday i’d love to cook more. someday i’d love to volunteer. i’ll do it when i get married...when i have kids...when i buy a house and have more space. well now i’ve decided that today is beautiful. and i’m going to start today.
here’s how it goes.

there are 4 categories.
being crafty: like those women on pinterest, for which i by the way dont even have an account, yet somehow manage to stumble across (on facebook) and think “when on earth does she have time for THAT?” and in result end up feeling completely incompetent, ill-prepared and unskilled to ever own or furnish a home.
cooking: like more than my usual every sunday chicken stirfry/crockpot/bake that i make enough of to last the week. or trying a homemade, natural version of some of the processed stuff we buy at the store.
volunteering: and being an over-worked under-paid teacher no longer counts for this category.
exploring/adventure: checking out new places in the city. or taking a saturday to go on that hike that i’ve passed by a zillion times while driving on 29/64/81 to a friend’s house. and not waiting until 8+ friends can join me. i have a car. 2 feet. and a gps.
here’s the goal: to accomplish 1 task in each of the 4 categories each month. for 1 year.
there have been times over the past several months when i’ve thought, “i dont have time for this.” but the truth is...yes i do. it’s a matter of spending my time doing meaningful and intentional things. i’m sure i could trade 2+ hours a week of facebook stalking to work in a soup kitchen.
so why am I blogging about this?

because i’ve recently become obsessed with other people’s blogs and figured i’d contribute.
because i think it’d be fun and creative.
because i’m bored.
because i want to be held accountable.
because i could possibly inspire someone else to live for today. (I know my brothers are rolling their eyes right now...)
and so it begins...
